BoatSheen UltraGlaze system
Boat weathering
As the hull of a boat is exposed to the weather, it is attacked by atmospheric pollution, acid rain, salt and bird droppings. They gradually penetrate the gel coat that forms the surface layer, destroying the shine and opening larger pores that retain dirt and corrosive pollutants. The process is accelerated by the UV radiation in sunlight.
BoatSheen UltraGlaze provides a UV barrier and a tough protective seal against the elements. Instead of penetrating the surface, dirt is locked out, and can easily be removed.
- Builds a hard-wearing, glossy layer on your boat
- Provides long-term protection from harmful pollutants
- Reduces the fading effect of UV radiation
- Discourages mildew and growths, reduces yellowing around the water line.
- Makes cleaning easier by shrugging off water, dirt and bird droppings.
- Eliminates the need for regular waxing
UltraGlaze - A Glaze system that improves the appearance and enhances the value of your boat.
BoatSheen UltraGlaze can be used on grp, new or old, and it works well on all modern paint finishes. It prevents 'chalking' and reduces the fading of dark colours. Even badly eroded surfaces can usually be recovered - please see our notes on preparation and restoring old surfaces.
BoatSheen UltraGlaze kits
The system is supplied in a kit including Glaze prep, the Glaze itself and a special applicator pad that makes it quick and easy to apply - a 30 foot boat can easily be glazed in a single morning or afternoon.

BoatSheen Glaze prep
This is a non-abrasive preparation treatment for BoatSheen Glaze. It removes oxidation, salting, diesel stains, black streaks and yellow stains around the water line. Restores the original colour and shine, and forms a clean key for the application of Glaze.
BoatSheen UltraGlaze
BoatSheen UltraGlaze is a complex polymer resin that bonds to the surface of your boat providing a tough, non-stick protective coating. It’s in the form of a self-curing water-based emulsion and is optimised for marine use and reliable DIY application
The technology behind BoatSheen UltraGlaze is used in extremely high-tech applications and is now used by boat manufacturers and professional boat finishers.
Maintenance
Once the surface is glazed, simply hose down the surface to remove dirt deposits. The glaze will last for several seasons, but the effectiveness of the UV protection gradually declines, so we recommend a top-up application of glaze each year. To clean up localised areas, use Polywash and Guard, which will also top up the glaze.
Polywash and Guard
Polywash and Guard can be used to top up the glaze and clean off spots and deposits without water. It contains emulsifiers and detergents that lift off the deposit without scratching. Just spray on, and wipe off.
Notes
Repairs to damaged areas – remove the glaze by compounding prior to repair. Then re-glaze to protect the repaired area.
Refurbishing an old boat – The BoatSheen UltraGlaze system is capable of restoring colour and shine to really dull surfaces and is strongly recommended in preference to painting. If the gel coat is badly eroded and chalky, we recommend testing a small section with prep and glaze before proceeding. A small sample kit is available for this.
If necessary, compound back to a good surface and note that porous surfaces may require additional glaze. As with other finishing processes, the quality of the final result reflects the care taken in preparation.
