Cleaning, protecting and restoring Anti-slip areas on boat decks

Do not wax anti-slip areas. This is one of the most common questions we are asked.

Maintenance

Brush and wash with clean fresh water. Bird droppings can be removed with BoatSheen Bird Off, or use Tough Boat Cleaner, diluted for hull cleaning. Whilst its tempting to scrape them off, the surface underneath can be scratched. Try to remove droppings quickly as they will swiftly etch and dull the surface – unfortunately gull droppings are the worst. Pigeon muck contains grit, eaten to aid digestion, so rubbing it off will abrade the surface underneath. For dried on droppings, leave a soggy cloth on the area for half an hour to soften the deposit, it should come off much easier after that.

Protection

Refer to individual manufacturer’s instructions.

Restoration

Replace damaged or worn areas with stick-on anti-slip pads or tapes.
